We adopted a run away dog yesterday. This is the kid's first dog after we've been putting it off for years. Amy was always hoping for a big dog (Lab), and this house with three kids in it already...well, that wasn't going to work.
So we never did move into a bigger home, and I like small dogs, and now this wonderful little dog has come along, and so...now he's "The Family Dog".

Annabelle and Todde getting used to eachother
The kid's named him Todd/ "Todde" after doing a little internet 'name' research on their own. "Todde" is Old English for 'fox'.  He looks a little like a fox running across the yard, and he does have that white tipped tail.
Todde was a runaway from Sarasota that made it all the way down to Birdbay where he was rounded up by my nephew. He has tags, and after being called, the former owner requested that we keep the dog. Apparently Todde is an out of control  escape artist. They di share with us hid Vet records, and that the name they had for him..he never responded to.
I think that's just his personality. He is in every way a fun, romping family dog except that no matter what or how you call him, he comes when he please..EXACTLY like our cat. It's a bit odd.
We're attempting to train him to come when called by positive re-enforcement, but we have one worry.
Todde hasn't displayed his 'escape artist' skills yet aside from showing us that he can jump up several feet onto furniture...another thing he does much like a cat.
We are considering getting him fixed. Perhaps that will curtail his wandering ways, but if anyone has any suggestions how we might successfully keep him from being a runner,
we'll gladly try your ideas out.
Apparently when he 'escapes' he never returns on his own. We also live 100 yards off 776.

I think we'll be looking to find all thing "Dogs in Venice" to explore with Todde, and post stuff here.
There are just a ton of dog lovers around here...we were the onyl folks on our block witrhout one.
We know about the dog beach, and Jacaranda dog park, but want to find all the other things. Like the outdoor dining around here we've heard where you can take your dog.

 Welcome to Todde's blog Smiley
